May 3, 2008
This Saturday, May 3rd from noon to one p.m., Attorney Schlesinger will be on WKRS Radio, 1200 a.m. in Waukegan, Illinois. with Jack Taylor.  He is the moderator and another lawyer to discuss grandparent visitation rights in Illinois. The show lasts one hour. The public will be able phone in with questions.

May 2, 2008 
The incoming president of the illinois state bar association, Jack Carey, appointed Gary to the family law section council for the 2008-09 bar year beginning July 1. The section council reviews and comments on and proposes legislation concerning family law topics to the Illinois legislature. The council also conducts several continuing legal education seminars throughout the state each year. Gary has been a presenter at these seminars. Lastly, the council publishes a monthly newsletter on illinois family law. Gary has had articles published annually in the last few years. 

Incoming president Carey also appointed Gary, to the committee, on the attorney registration and disciplinary commission for the 2008-09 bar association year. Gary was the chairman of this committee in 1999-2000. This committee works closely with the registration and disciplinary commission concerning attorney discipline and Illinois supreme court rules governing admission to the bar, registration, discipline, continuing education and other matters affecting the conduct of attorneys in Illinois.

April 4, 2008
Gary and Michael both attended a continuing legal education seminar on juvenile court cases and the role of the guardian for the children. Both are now eligible to be appointed as guardians ad litem in juvenile cases in Lake County, Illinois. This ability and knowledge will help them represent parents and others in juvenile court.  

March 18 & 19, 2008
At the request of the Chief Judge of the Family Division of the Lake County Court, Gary will be on the planning committee and will be a presenter at a two day seminar to train lawyers to represent children in contested custody and visitation cases. The seminar is March 18 and 19, 2008 at the college of lake county.

March 3, 2008
Gary will be speaking on Illinois Divorce Law at the Mundelein High School Adult Education Program for one 3 hour session in the evening. 

February 8, 2008
Gary has been asked to speak at a seminar on business valuation and taxation to be held by the accounting firm of Dam, Snell, and Taviergn in Libertyville.

February 7, 2008
Gary will be speaking about divorce law to the monthly meeting of the Lake County Bar Assn. Real Estate Committee.

January 14, 2008
Michael and Gary will both attend a seminar on taxation and business evaluation sponsored by the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. As in the past several years, Gary is on the planning committee for this seminar.

Gary's article on Cohabitation Revisited was published in the December, 2007 issue of the Illinois State Bar Assn. Family Law newsletter.

Gary has been appointed chairman of the by laws revision committee of the Lake County Illinois Bar Association.

Gary has been appointed to four committees of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for the current year ending Nov.1, 2008.

Michael and Gary both attended a four hour seminar on Jan. 11 on Ethics and Professionalism sponsored by the Association of Women Attorneys of Lake County Illinois.

December 7, 2007
Gary will be a presenter at a family law seminar at the midyear meeting of the Illinois State Bar Association

November 4, 2007
Gary will be a presenter at a seminar on Drafting Pre-Marital and Post-Marital Agreements sponsored by the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. Gary is on the planning committee for this seminar.

October 18, 2007
Gary will be a presenter at a 4 hour course for attorneys who get appointed to represent children in custody cases in Lake County Illinois. Both Michael and Gary are on the list and both have been appointed by judges to be lawyers for children.

September 15, 2007
Gary will be teaching a three hour class on Introduction to Illinois Divorce Law at Mundelein High School Adult Education Program.

June, 2007
Gary will attend the four day annual meeting of the Illinois State Bar Association to take 8 hours of family law continuing education, attend the semi annual meeting of the Assembly as a voting member, and attend the Family law Section Council and ARDC Committee meetings.

Gary has been appointed to serve on two committees of the Illinois State Bar Association for one year. One is the Family Law Section Council and the other is the Committee that is the liaison to the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.

Michael will attend a 4 day seminar on the various aspects of preparing and trying a family law case, sponsored by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Michael Strauss has been accepted as a member of the list of approved child representatives in custody cases in Lake County, Illinois.April, 2007. Gary and Michael attend a 4 hour seminar on Ethics and Professionalism sponsored by the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

June, 2007
by acclamation, in june 2007, gary will begin serving a second three-year term as a member of the illinois state bar association assembly...which is the legislative and policy making body of the association.

October 9, 2006, and February 12, 2007
on october 9, 2006, and february 12, 2007, michael strauss completed 16 hours of training to be certified as a child representative and guardian ad litem in custody and adoption cases. he is now certified to serve in those capacities in the 16th, 18th, and 19th judicial circuits in illinois.

June, 2007
In June, 2007, Michael will attend a four day intensive seminar by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for Associate Attorneys. The subjects are trial preparation and strategy, business evaluation, taxation, among others. For four years, Gary was on the faculty of that seminar.

February 22-25, 2007
The weekend of feb. 22 thru 25, Michael and Gary will both be attending and giving presentations at the annual Lake County Bar Association Family Law Seminar. This will be my 33rd time doing this and Michael's first.

February 13, 2007
On Feb. 13, Gary will be presenting a one evening class on illinois divorce law at the Mundelein Illinois High School adult education program. I have been doing this for 20 years.

February 12, 2007
Michael successfully completed a two day training seminar presented by the Sixteenth and Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Courts on October 9, 2006 and February 12, 2007, to become certified as a Guardian Ad Litem, Child Respresentative and Attorney for the Child.

In Feb. 2007, Michael and I will both attend the Lake County Illinois Family Law seminar for 3 days. more info later.

January 30, 2007
On January 30, Gary will be a court appointed mediator as part of a new program adopted by the Lake County family law judges. One morning a week a volunteer mediator, who meets certain training and experience requirements, will be sent cases by the judges to mediate on various issues such as parenting time and child support.

January 27, 2007
January 27, Michael Strauss was invited to speak at the annual student-alumni career conference at the University of Illinois College of Law. The panels he participated on included the following topics: litigation versus transactional, family law, summer associate evaluations, and large firms versus small firms. it took place all day Saturday January 27, 2007 in Champaign.

On January 25, Gary attended a one hour seminar on responding to domestic violence presented by the Criminal Law Committee of the Lake County Bar Association.

January 15, 2007
On January 15, Michael and Gary both attended an 8 hour seminar on taxation and business evaluation sponsored by the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education.

December 7, 2006
Dec 7 thru 9, 2006, I will be attending the Illinois State Bar. Assn. mid year meeting in Chicago attending two committee meetings and the meeting of the assembly, the legislative body of the association.

On Nov. 28, Michael and I both attended a short seminar on the law and procedure of being a guardian in an adoption case. earlier in Nov., Michael attended a day long seminar on representing children in custody cases in Illinois.

November 20, 2006
On Nov. 20, I will be teaching at an Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education seminar on drafting marital settlement agreements.

I have been nominated to be a vice president of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for the year, beginning Nov. 1.

In september, 2006, gary received the wayne flanigan award given by the lake county bar association and its volunteer lawyer committee to a person who has shown exceptional dedication in meeting the legal needs of the indigent in lake county.

On Sept. 28, I will be attending a course on representing children in divorce cases put on by the Chief Judge of the Cook County (Chicago) divorce court.

On Sept. 26, I will present a one evening class on Illinois divorce law at the Mundelein Illinois high school adult education program.

On Sept. 22 I will be a presenter at an all day continuing legal education seminar put on by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education. The subject is drafting marital settlement agreements.

In August, michael strauss will attend a one day seminar on representing clients in contested custody cases.

June 1, 2006
I have been appointed to a one year term on the Illinois State Bar Association family law section council by the president of the Isba, Irene Bahr. The term began june 1.

I have been appointed to a one year term on the illinois state bar association committee that is the liaison with the illinois attorney registration and disciplinary commission by the president of the isba, irene bahr. The term began june 1.

In June, 2006, I attended a half day seminar on the psychological and ethical ramifications of representing children in contested child custody cases. This was to maintain my accreditation as a member of the list of lake county Illinois lawyers appointed by judges to represent children in contested custody cases.

I will attend the Illinois State Bar Association annual business meeting and seminar. I will be a member of the family law section council and the committee on the attorney registration and disciplinary commission for the next year. I was appointed to both of these by the incoming president, Irene Bahr. I will also be attending as a member of the assembly, the legislative body of the isba. I was elected 2 years ago to a three year term to expire in June 2007.

April 26-30, 2006
Gary Schlesinger will be attending the annual Lake County Illinois Bar Association Family Law Seminar in Savannah, Georgia.  Mr. Schlesinger is a member of the planning committee for this seminar...and has been for the past ten (10) years.  Mr. Schlesinger will be one of the speakers.  There will be approximately eighty (80) lawyers, judges, mediators and child custody evaluators in attendance. This is the best attended Lake County Bar seminar each year.

February 15, 2006
Gary Schlesinger will be teaching the following class at Mundelein High School Adult Education Program:  "Dispelling th Myths of Illinois Divorce Law".  Mr. Schesinger teaches this class twice a year...and has been doing this for about fifteen (15) years.

Gary Schlesinger will be presenting and attending at the annual Lake County Illinois Bar Association-Family Law Committee seminar in Savannah, Georgia.

Gary Schlesinger will be attending an eight (8) hour seminar sponsored by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.  The topics are Business Evaluation and Taxation.  Mr. Schlesinger has attended this seminar annually for at least the past twelve (12) years.  Several times, he has been a presenter at this seminar.

Gary Schlesinger will be attending the Annual Business Evaluation and Income Tax Seminar co-sponsored by the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Effective Jan. 1, 2006
The Illinois Supreme Court has mandated minimum continuing legal education requirements for Illinois Lawyers.  Since 1974 I have annually exceeded the minimum now required. In every year beginning in 1974 I have been the presenter of at least one CLE seminar.

Gary Schlesinger will be presenting a program on testifying and cross examination to the mental health professionals on the Lake county Illinois Custody Evaluation Court approved provider list.

Gary Schlesinger will be a vice president of the Illinois chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers starting November 1, 2004.

October 20-23, 2004
Gary Schlesinger attended a seminar by the American Bar Association Family Law section.  Gary attended sessions dealing with collaborative divorce, negotiation, complex and high conflict child custody cases, cross examination, alimony, child support, and nontraditional relationships and family law issues.

June 24-27, 2004
Gary Schlesinger will be a presenter and mentor at the Institute for Family Law Associates from the Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers National Organization.

Gary Schlesinger will be one of three speakers at a seminar presented by the National Business Institute in Schaumburg, IL and will be speaking on the handling of complex divorce cases.
